The birds have gone crazy

Apr 21, 05:42

I don’t know how long it has been going on, but since I returned from New Orleans the birds living in and around the building have started singing very early in the morning.

Early, as in between 2:30 and 3 AM. Daily.

This might be normal, but I don’t remember hearing them so long before sun-up ever before. Perhaps they’re getting back at me for interrupting their sleep with my late night work marathons. If so, their plan is succeeding; I’ve had trouble falling asleep every night of the past few weeks.

Or perhaps they’re worried about Adobe buying Macromedia (everyone else has something to say about it, even though Mr. Gruber1 has hit the nail on the head), or maybe they’re discussing the new Pope, or even lamenting my recent attempts at writing songs and singing.

It is hard to say. But I do know for sure that as I almost finish a web project tonight, there are at least three more lurking in the wings, and a few circling overhead. And they all know about my relentless tendancy to verbalize ‘I’m afraid I am too busy to take on your project right now’ as ‘Let me see what I can do.’

Maybe that is what the birds are so worked up about: looming deadlines invading their airspace. I would be concerned too. In fact, I am.

1 Incidentally, my favorite posts on Daring Fireball are the ‘press release translations’ such as the one for Quark 6. Priceless.
