Only as far as they have to

Recent random thoughts on Apple and Mac related things:
- G5 specs are sketchy. Someone purchases a G5. He receives 256MB RAM, and an 80 Gig hard disk from the factory. The same amount of RAM and HD he could get standard in a $430 Compaq. Also an issue is the video card- the GeForce 5200 Ultra is the same card that is widely believed to not be powerful enough to belong in an iMac, let alone a G5.
- iTunes 4.7 disabled iPod Download (You can still get it at MacUpdate). Now I have to open iTunes in a hex editor to reenable this feature. If people want to steal music Apple purposefully disabling this plugin isn’t going to stop them, but it is making moving songs between my multiple Macs more difficult.
- The new iMac is fugly. It’s great that it is inspired by the iPod, but might I suggest that the design issues facing a pocket-sized portable music player differ greatly from those facing a one-piece desktop computer? The ingenious adjustable arm design has given rise to a monolithic chuck of while plastic.
- The Photo iPod does a pretty good job at what it is supposed to do. I was impressed with how well it scrolls through the photos in a slideshow. Also- it is not the unit’s intended purpose, but the games, while now in color, are still rather weak.
